Little Wandle Champion School

It seems amazing to think that we have been a Champion School for nearly two years now! Working in partnership to champion the amazing programme that Little Wandle is has been transformative for our small village school. Since becoming a Champion School, we have held 10 live events, welcoming 47 visitors from many different schools. Our unique small size has seen schools travel from as far as Oxfordshire to visit us. 

We are immensely proud of the children for becoming so accustomed to having visitors within phonics lessons. They take this in their stride, with their learning behaviours and rapid progress noted by our visiting schools. The money generated from these live events have paid for an author visit from Isabel Thomas and a spending spree at The Little Fox bookshop, within the last year! 

Reading is at the heart of everything we do at Lealholm, as we recognise it as the gateway to the curriculum. Our Year Two cohort is the first year group to have been through three years of Little Wandle, as they currently enjoy Fluency sessions and the spelling programme. We need to look no further than these talented and passionate Year Two readers to see the success of being a Champion School, all achieved whilst maintaining our 100% Phonics Screening Check for the last 6 years!
