Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to help schools improve the educational outcomes of disadvantaged pupils and to reduce any attainment gaps between these pupils and their peers.Schools receive Pupil Premium funding for eligible pupils and use it to provide targeted support, resources and opportunities that help children achieve their full potential, both academically and personally.At our school, Pupil Premium funding is used carefully to ensure that eligible pupils receive the support they need to thrive and succeed.

Due to the very small number of pupils currently eligible for Pupil Premium funding, publishing a detailed strategy statement could inadvertently identify individual children. To protect pupil confidentiality, we do not publish our Pupil Premium Strategy Statement on our website. However, further information about our approach to supporting disadvantaged pupils is available on request from the school office.

Physical Education is highly valued at Lealholm Primary School and forms an important part of our curriculum. We believe that high-quality PE and sport help children develop confidence, resilience, teamwork, leadership skills and a lifelong enjoyment of being physically active.The Government continues to provide funding through the Primary PE and Sport Premium to support schools in making additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE, sport and physical activity. The funding is ring-fenced and can only be used to improve the provision of PE and sport for all pupils. In 2025 to 2026, the Government confirmed a further £320 million nationally to support PE and sport in primary schools.

At Lealholm Primary School, we use this funding to:

• increase participation in physical activity and sport
• enhance the quality of PE teaching through staff development
• provide a wider range of sporting opportunities and experiences
• increase opportunities for competitive sport
• promote healthy, active lifestyles for all pupils. 

Through our PE curriculum, extracurricular activities and participation in local sporting events, we aim to ensure that every child develops the knowledge, skills and motivation needed to lead an active and healthy life.

Swimming is an important element of our PE curriculum. In line with National Curriculum expectations, pupils are taught to:

• swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
• use a range of swimming strokes effectively
• perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.

In 2025/26, 100% of Year 6 pupils met the National Curriculum swimming standard, with all pupils able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over at least 25 metres.
