Implementation
PSHE is taught primarily through the myHappymind+ programme, supported by carefully selected resources from organisations including the NSPCC, Department for Education and North Yorkshire guidance.
myHappymind+ is based on neuroscience, positive psychology and child development. Through the five programme modules:
- Meet Your Brain
- Celebrate
- Appreciate
- Relate
- Engage
children develop emotional literacy, self-awareness, resilience, positive relationships and emotional wellbeing.
As a small school with mixed-age classes, learning is organised through a carefully planned rolling programme to ensure progression and coverage across all year groups. Learning is delivered through four phases:
- Nursery
- Reception
- Key Stage 1
- Years 3 and 4
- Years 5 and 6
PSHE is woven throughout school life and reinforced through assemblies, class discussions, themed events, collective worship, educational visits and everyday interactions.
Relationships and Health Education are taught in line with statutory guidance and include learning about:
- families and friendships
- respectful relationships
- online relationships and safety
- personal safety and safeguarding
- physical and mental health
- healthy lifestyles
- economic wellbeing
- puberty and growing up
Learning is adapted to meet the needs of all pupils, including those with SEND, and is delivered in an inclusive, age-appropriate and sensitive manner.
